Amy Carlson
Amy Carlson was raised in Glen Ellyn
(Illinois) and spent the majority of her childhood living in Chicago. Amy lived
with her family in Chicago while she was in junior high. Parents, Bob, and Barb
taught at the American School in the Middle East. Amy is the sister Betsy,
Lori, and brother Joe. Amy has traveled throughout Europe with her family and
independently. Both of them were teachers and were able to travel and camp with
each other every summer due to this. In fact, they have camped in every state except
Alaska. Amy traveled to Rwanda in 1994 following the war to assist with the
relief efforts. Amy was a gifted actor in school productions and was a winner
of writing contests. She was a promising athlete during high school, and was a
participant in the very first 3200-meter relay in Illinois girls track. After
an injury, she was able to return to theater , and played a variety roles in
plays, including Lanford Wilson's "Fifth of July" and Wallace Shawn's
film "Aunt Dan and Lemon". Amy attended Knox College in Galesburg,
Illinois and graduated in cum laude. She graduated with having a B.A. East
Asian history, with a specialization in Theater. Following graduation, she
relocated to Chicago where she pursued studies in Improv at The Improv Olympics
as well as acting at The Actor's Center. After graduation she was offered a
contract job on the now-defunct soap drama Another World (1964). She has been
nominated to win an Daytime Emmy Award in the category of "Outstanding
Supporting Actress in an Daytime Drama Series". The most memorable
characters include those played by women who are strong, such as Alex Taylor in
Third Watch (1999), Maggie Pistone ((2000)), Katie Owen and Tom Berenger in
Peacemakers(2003) and Linda Reagan in Blue Bloods(2003). Carlson lives in New
York City, with Syd Butler, her husband and Bassist of Les Savy Fav. She also
runs Frenchkiss Records, an independent music label, and serves as a co-owner.
Amy continues to write as well as look for unique and diverse films and roles.
